En noviembre, la lección de discipulado con base en el alfabeto hebreo es con las letras yud y mem. Yud por yareach significa luna y mem por mayim significa agua… Al prepararnos para nuestro primer viaje misionero internacional postpandemia este mes (a España), veamos dónde nos llevan la luna y el agua… Sigan leyendo…

¿Recuerdan los terremotos que destruyeron gran parte de Lorca en mayo de 2011 (arriba)? La Casa de Acogida para Mujeres El Buen Camino sufrió grandes pérdidas y sus residentes tuvieron que evacuar el lugar. Gracias a la generosidad del Ministerio de Mujeres Bautistas de Indiana y Puerto Rico, así como otros lugares en EE.UU. y nuestra isla, se construyó una nueva casa y en el 2015 (abajo) Cori, Robin y Mayra pudimos ser testigos de su dedicación y compartir con residentes del ministerio para escuchar cómo Dios les proveyó el “mayim” viva que tanto necesitaban.

Esta visita este mes es la primera vez desde el 2012 (Carlos) y 2015 (Mayra) que podemos regresar a España para estar con nuestros socios en misión, la Unión Evangélica Bautista de España y su Facultad Teológica. Fue a través de su coparticipación y el apoyo de Abi, Carmen, Ester, Juanita y María, que supimos de la necesidad de una nueva casa cuando todavía vivíamos allí y pudimos apoyar la construcción de esta nueva casa para servir a mujeres marginadas en riesgo de exclusión social. Aunque no podremos ver la casa en esta ocasión, podremos hablar durante la convención anual #71 con quienes sirven en ese ministerio y escuchar testimonio de primera mano de cómo Dios sigue moviéndose en sus vidas con el transcurso de los años.

Podemos decir que al salir en estos viajes misioneros internacionales postpandemia, así como aprendimos de Pablo y Bernabé, estamos:

• regresando a los lugares donde ya estuvimos.
• para ver en persona cómo están y alentarles en cada lugar.
• para compartirles las buenas noticias de nuestro nuevo rol y las posibilidades que abre para retomar nuestra jornada compartida en discipulado.

Así que, con este viaje a España comenzamos nuestra ronda de visitas a socios con quienes servimos en el pasado y que oramos seguir sirviendo en el presente y futuro en nuestro rol de consultores regionales para discipulado en Iberoamérica y El Caribe a través de los encuentros de discipulado “Discípulos del Camino”. Nos emociona y bendice ver cómo Dios sigue iluminando Su luz en nosotros, quienes como la “yareach”, no siempre reflejamos esa luz aunque Él (como el sol) siempre brilla. Como Sus discípulas y discípulos tenemos mucho por aprender en la búsqueda de seguirlo paso a paso. Debemos confesar que a veces nos atrasamos y otras nos adelantamos en lugar de ir al paso de Su Espíritu.

Gracias por orar mientras viajamos. Y por nuestra prole y quien les apoyará cuidando a la mamá de Mayra en nuestra ausencia. Que podamos disfrutar la visita, reconectar en persona con nuestros socios, conocer nuevas personas, así como soñar maneras de acompañar a la UEBE y la FTUEBE en sus esfuerzos de discipulado en España. De seguro hay mucho que aprender de su larga historia como discípulos y discípulas del Camino desde 1922.

Oren también que siempre contemos con los recursos necesarios para cada oportunidad de ministerio en nuestra región. En diciembre iremos a Colombia, en enero a Chile y en agosto a Nicaragua. Dios nos ha permitido seguir en comunicación con nuestros socios aunque no estemos físicamente en sus países. También oremos por otros países en nuestra región que Dios inquiete a invitarnos a compartir lo que de Él estamos recibiendo. Y oren por el rol que Él quiera que tengan en nuestro hacer discípulas y discípulos en nuestra región y más allá que amen a Dios, a sí mismos y quienes les rodean.

Unámonos para reflejar Su luz como la yareach y compartir Su mayim viva…

Do you remember the earthquakes that destroyed most of Lorca in May 2011 (above)? The Good Way Women’s Shelter suffered great loss and their residents had to evacuate the place. Thanks to the generosity of the ABWM of Indiana and Puerto Rico, as well as many others in the USA and our island, a new house was built for them and in 2015 (below) Cori, Robin, and Mayra were able to witness its dedication and share with the ministry’s residents to hear how God had provided them the living “mayim” they so desperately needed.

This visit this month is the first time since 2012 (for Carlos) and 2015 (for Mayra) that we will be returning to Spain to be with our partners, the UEBE / FTUEBE (Unión Evangélica Bautista de España and its Theological Faculty). It was through their partnership and the support from Abi, Carmen, Ester, Juanita, and María, that we learned of the need of the new house while still there and were blessed to see this new house built to serve marginalized women at risk of social exclusion. Though we will not be able to visit the house itself, we will be able to talk during their annual gathering #71 with those who are serving in that ministry and hear first-hand how God has continued to move in their lives these past years.

You could say that as we go on these international post-pandemic missionary trips, as we learned from Paul and Barnabas, we are:

• returning to the places that we had been.
• to check on them and to encourage believers in those places.
• to share the good news regarding our new role and the possibilities it opens to resume our shared journey in discipleship.

Indeed, with this trip to Spain we begin our round of visits with partners we served with in the past and pray to continue serving in the present and future in our role as regional consultants for discipleship in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean through our discipleship encounters “Disciples of the Way”. We are excited and blessed to see how God has continued to shine His light upon us and though, like the “yareach”, we not always reflect that light, He (like the sun) is always shining. As His disciples we have so much to learn in our pursuit of following Him each step of the way. We must admit that at times we are lagging behind while at other times we get way ahead instead of walking in step with His Spirit.

Please pray with us as we travel. And for our children and beloved caring for Mayra’s mom in our absence. May we be able to enjoy the visit, reconnecting in person with our partners, meeting new siblings, and learning how we can accompany the UEBE and FTUEBE in their discipleship efforts throughout Spain. Surely there are many things we are yet to learn of their long heritage as disciples of the Way since 1922.

Please continue to pray that we will always have adequate resources for each ministry opportunity in our region. In December we are going to Colombia, in January to Chile, and in August to Nicaragua. God has allowed us to stay in touch with our partners even when not physically present in their countries. Also pray for other countries in our region asking that God will nudge them to invite us to share these new discipleship materials. Pray also asking what role He may want you to have in our making disciples in our region and beyond that love God, themselves, and others.
