June: This month your BGs participated in the UBLA Conference in Bogotá and a VBS with the congregation which we now attend. This year’s Baptist Leaders’ Continental Conference was held in Bogota from June 4-7. We hosted five pastors from the National Baptist Convention of Chile who attended. The title for the Conference was “Here, now, and to the ends of the earth”. Siblings from Latin America gathered to share their highs and lows of missionary endeavors across the region and to plan strategic ways to continue sharing the Good News to others, planting churches, and making disciples of all the nations.

It had been a while since we last attended one of these meetings. What a blessing to represent our American Baptist family from the USA and Puerto Rico! We currently have 39 global servants in 12 different countries in this region. We pray that for the 2021 Conference in Chile, other colleagues will join us. There was so much to learn and to share of what God is doing throughout this region. The theme “Jesus, Transformation and Life” is the follow up of “There is Life in Jesus” we had been a part of when we were in Chile at the beginning of our ministry with the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society (ABFMS).

One of the highlights of attending this conference was to interact again with Pastor Luis Eberto, FBC Cúcuta, about their ministry with Venezuelans in the border between Colombia and Venezuela. In attendance were leaders from the Venezuela Baptist Convention and we were able to meet them and hear of their challenges, their joys in the midst of such pain, and their dreams for the future. As American Baptists from the USA and Puerto Rico we have so much to give and to learn! We pray that many will be inspired and nudged to partner with us as we partner with Pastor Luis Eberto and these Venezuelan siblings in their hour of need. Another highlight was, very much like when we visited Chile in 2017, sharing with Pastors Héctor (current Convention president), Lord, Daniel, Juan Pablo, and Ismael. It was as if we had never been apart! Our Bible study materials can bless our Chilean family too, and they have asked us for them. We pray for the times and the seasons to share in Chile what is ready (Part 1: Bible). Please pray with us for all the logistics and the resources needed to expand the use of the Bible study materials and that many will be transformed by His Spirit as they study.

This month your BGs are also blessing the children during the Vacation Bible School (VBS) at the church they have joined. VBS is a first step of discipleship to the children about God’s great commission that we all are charged to fulfill. June 17-21, your BGs are devoted to the topic of “In the Wild” with the children and youth of Christian Community The Way in Cedritos. Alberto, Carolina, and Daniela will join youth Pastor Benjamín, Isabela, and others to share what was written in the Word so that many may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20.31). Please keep the teachers and the attending kids in your prayers so that the Scripture is fulfilled through them, that week after Father’s Day.

Two of the verses shared during the UBLA Conference were Acts 18.9-10. As we complete 19 years of service through ABFMS this June and start our 20th year in July, these are words that encourage us to continue speaking, preaching, and teaching. We cannot be silent when so many still need to hear that God loves them, wants them to be His disciples, and has provided His Spirit to teach us all the truth and the Way.

As we wrap up #19 and prepare for #20, July brings us to the Global Baptist Peace Conference, July 15-20, in Cali, Colombia. Our initial assignment through the UNIBAUTISTA is close at hand and soon after that we will begin our second assignment: discipleship to the Wayuu people in The Guajira. We will make our first visit to them in August. Stay tuned for more!

American Baptist Churches in the USA and Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico, milestones are important, and we rejoice for this upcoming milestone. We (all global servants) respond to our call and you respond to yours. As you read about the 205th anniversary of ABFMS, you also read of upcoming changes in the personalized support goals for all the global servants effective October 1st, 2019. The mission support services costs have increased since it was first established and as we continue to row together, the whole of ABFMS is pitching in a significant portion of those costs. Suffice to say that endorsed, appointed, and commissioned global servants, regardless of year of commissioning, are counting on your extra mile of prayerful, joyful, financial support to be sure to continue in service in sustainable ways in this third century of global mission. You will soon hear directly from our executive director with more details and the opportunity for you, your family and friends, and your congregations to respond to the call of partnership with each of us and our partners in the field.

Together we serve here, now, and to the ends of the earth; without fear, speaking, not being silent, for God is with us and has provided you and others to be in many cities as His people. May He bless you and nudge you to continue in His service, loving and caring for your neighbors as you love and care yourselves!

Junio: Este mes tus BGs participamos en la Cumbre UBLA en Bogotá y la EBV de la congregación donde estamos compartiendo. La Cumbre Continental de Líderes Bautistas de este año se llevó a cabo en Bogotá del 4 al 7 de junio. Recibimos a cinco pastores de la Convención Bautista Nacional de Chile. El tema de la Cumbre fue “Aquí, ahora y hasta lo último de la tierra”. Se reunieron de Latinoamérica para compartir testimonios misioneros de la región, tanto positivos como desafiantes, y planificar estrategias para seguir compartiendo las Buenas Nuevas con otros, plantar iglesias y hacer discípulos de todas las naciones.

Hacía algún tiempo que estuvimos en una de estas reuniones. ¡Fue una bendición representar la familia bautista americana de EE.UU. y Puerto Rico! Somos 39 servidores globales en 12 países de la región. Oramos que para la Cumbre 2021 en Chile, otros colegas se unan. Hay mucho por aprender y también para compartir de lo que Dios está haciendo a través de la región. El tema “Jesús, Transformación y Vida” es la continuación de “Hay Vida en Jesús” del que fuimos parte cuando estuvimos en Chile en los comienzos de nuestro ministerio a través de la Sociedad Misionera Foránea Bautista Americana (ABFMS en inglés).

Un momento cumbre de este evento fue interactuar nuevamente con el Pastor Luis Eberto, PIB Cúcuta, acerca del ministerio con familias venezolanas en la frontera de Colombia con Venezuela. En la Cumbre participaron de la Convención Nacional Bautista de Venezuela, les conocimos y conversamos acerca de sus desafíos, sus gozos en medio de tanto dolor y sus sueños para el futuro. Como Iglesias Bautistas Americanas en EE.UU. e Iglesias Bautistas de Puerto Rico tenemos tanto que dar y tanto que aprender… Oramos por quienes se inspiren y acepten el desafío de acompañarnos en este acompañamiento al Pastor Luis Eberto y estas familias venezolanas en su hora de necesidad. Pronto compartiremos algunos proyectos que estamos formulando con el Pastor Luis Eberto. Pendientes a más noticias.

Otro momento cumbre fue, tal y como cuando visitamos Chile en 2017, recibir a los Pastores Héctor (actual presidente de la Convención), Lord, Daniel, Juan Pablo e Ismael. Fue como si nunca nos hubiésemos separado. Nuestros materiales de estudio bíblico pueden bendecir a nuestra familia chilena también y nos lo han pedido. Oramos por los tiempos y las sazones para compartir en Chile lo que está disponible (Parte 1: Biblia). Oremos por la logística y los recursos necesarios para expandir el uso de estos materiales y por las personas que serán transformadas por Su Espíritu según estudian.

Este mes tus BGs también bendecimos a la niñez durante la Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones (EBV) en la iglesia donde perseveramos. La EBV es un primer paso del discipulado a la niñez acerca de la Gran Comisión a la que todos somos llamados. Del 17 al 21 de junio, tus BGs se dedicarán al tema “En la Naturaleza” con la niñez y la juventud de la Comunidad Cristiana El Camino en Cedritos. Alberto, Carolina y Daniela junto al Pastor Benjamín, Isabela y otros compartirán lo que se ha escrito en la Palabra para que creamos que Jesús es el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios; y para que al creer, tengamos vida en su nombre. (Juan 20.31). Oremos por cada persona para que se cumpla la Palabra, esa semana post-Día de los Padres.

Dos versículos compartidos en la Conferencia de UBLA están en Hechos 18.9-10. Al completar 19 años de servicio a través de ABFMS este mes de junio y comenzar el año 20 en julio, estas palabras nos alientan a seguir hablando, predicando y enseñando. No nos podemos callar cuando todavía hay personas sin oír que Dios las ama, quiere que sean Sus discípulos y ha provisto Su Espíritu para enseñarnos a la Verdad y el Camino.

Completando los 19 y empezando los 20, julio nos trae a la Conferencia Global Bautista por la Paz, 15 al 20 de julio, en Cali, Colombia. Nuestra asignación inicial a través de la UNIBAUTISTA está cerca e inmediatamente comenzaremos la segunda asignación, ofrecer discipulado al pueblo Wayuu en La Guajira. Nuestra primera visita será en agosto. ¡Detalles pronto!

Iglesias Bautistas Americanas en EE.UU. e Iglesias Bautistas de Puerto Rico, los hitos son importantes y nos gozamos con el que se avecina. Gracias por responder a Su llamado así como tus BGs (y cada colega) respondemos al propio. Tal como se compartió acerca del aniversario #205 de ABFMS—Ministerios Internacionales, se avecinan cambios en el sistema de apoyo personalizado para todo el cuerpo misionero efectivo al 1ro de octubre de 2019. Los costos de apoyo al servicio misionero han aumentado desde que se establecieron y para seguir remando en unidad, cada persona en ABFMS estamos asumiendo una porción significativa de esos costos. Entiéndase que cada servidor y servidora global endosado, nombrado y comisionado, independiente del año en que comenzamos, contamos con tu milla extra en oración, entusiasmo y apoyo financiero para asegurar la continuidad de nuestro servicio misionero en este tercer siglo de misión global. Pronto escucharán directamente de nuestra directora ejecutiva con más información y la oportunidad para que tú, tus amistades y familia y congregación respondan al llamado de coparticipar con cada uno de nosotros y nuestros socios en misión en el campo asignado.

En unidad servimos aquí, ahora y hasta lo último de la tierra; sin temor, hablando, sin callarnos, porque Dios es con nosotros y ha provisto a muchas personas como tú en muchas ciudades como Su pueblo. ¡Que Él te bendiga e inquiete a seguir a Su servicio, amando a tu prójimo como a ti mismo!
