“The Petit-Frías family are grateful to God because through the Bonilla-Giovanetti family we met Jesus and acknowledged Him as our Lord and Savior. What this family does is dazzling, like when the peacock spreads its wings, taking the message of truth. So too is for our country Venezuela, lit up like a candle spreading its fragrance through people that leave hoping for a better life for their families. Thanks, God, for the joy of meeting this beautiful family.”

Though we couldn’t stay all four years in Colombia, in the year we were there, the Lord allowed us to meet this family and see the work of His Spirit in them. Today they are baptized, in fellowship, are being discipled, and serve the Lord. They are raising their children in the fear of the Lord. Amid their multiple challenges as migrants, they live filled with hope because they know Jesus is with them each day and in every situation.

That is why it’s so important to go and serve where the Lord takes us, for as long as He allows us. Interactions can happen anywhere, even under a bridge… When we dare to go out of the four walls of a sanctuary, and put ourselves in His hands, He gives us words and puts love in our hearts to see our neighbor as He sees us and them. Even for one person that comes to His feet, it is worth it. Hence the family of faith continues to grow, and we continue fulfilling His will on earth as it is in heaven…

That is what we’ve been doing for almost 210 years within our mission society focused on evangelism, discipleship, and ministries of compassion and justice which we’ve been called to by our Master.

This second month of World Mission Offering promotion within our American Baptist family in the USA and Puerto Rico (worldmissionoffering.org), we share of these missionary units preparing to serve through other mission agencies. We met Kaylee in Puerto Rico during the biennial. The Rai and the Ballinger are seminary colleagues of our first-born son. We rejoice that youth and families continue responding to the call to go where the Lord sends. We encourage you to pray for them, find them, and support them as you’re led. Many from our mission society, these, and many others elsewhere serve the same God; it is all His mission, and it is with His resources. If we look at missions in a more holistic way and tear down the barriers that separate us, as if we were kingdoms in competition, we would advance more in fulfilling the task we have been given.

This month of October we thank the Lord for the beginning of a new fiscal year, for 14 years since our ordination, for our time in Colombia and meeting families like the Petit-Frías, for those that are preparing to serve through our mission society and others. And though these last four years were very difficult while not living internationally, we thank the Lord that He continues to count on us to serve Him. November, December, and January are months when we will reconnect in person with our partners in countries where we’ve served. We continue making disciples in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean and count on the prayers, encouragement, and offerings of His people. Thanks to your generosity we continue spreading light like the candle and spreading our wings like peacock, so others know the Way, the Truth, and the Life. “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”

En octubre, la lección de discipulado se basa en las letras del alfabeto hebreo tet y nun. Tet con tavas que significa pavo real y nun con narot que significa vela… Nuestros amigos migrantes de Venezuela que conocimos en Colombia nos hablan de tet-tavas-pavo real… Siga leyendo para aprender por qué…

“La familia Petit Frías estamos muy agradecidos con Dios ya que por medio de los Bonilla Giovanetti logramos conocer a Jesucristo y reconocerlo como nuestro Señor y Salvador. El trabajo que hace esta familia es reluciente, como cuando el pavo real abre sus alas llevando ese gran mensaje de verdad. Así es también para nuestra patria Venezuela, que está encendida como esa vela que además suelta una fragancia en las personas que salen con la ilusión de sacar a sus familias adelante. Gracias, Dios, por darnos la dicha de conocer a esta hermosa familia.”

Aunque no pudimos estar los cuatro años en Colombia, en ese año que vivimos allí, el Señor nos permitió conocer a esta familia y ver la obra de Su Espíritu en ellos. Hoy en día son bautizados, se congregan, son discipulados y sirven al Señor. Están educando a sus hijos e hijas en el temor del Señor. En medio de sus múltiples desafíos como migrantes, viven llenos de esperanza porque saben que Jesús les acompaña cada día y en cada situación.

Por eso es tan importante salir a servir donde el Señor nos lleva, por el tiempo que Él lo permite. Las interacciones pueden darse en cualquier lugar, incluso debajo de un puente… Cuando nos atrevemos a salir de las cuatro paredes y nos ponemos en las manos del Señor, Él pone palabra en nuestros labios y amor en nuestros corazones para poder ver al prójimo como Él nos ve y los ve. Por una sola persona que llegue a los pies del Señor, vale la pena ir. Así sigue creciendo la familia de la fe y seguimos fomentando que se cumpla Su voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo…

Y esto lo hacemos hace casi 210 años dentro de Ministerios Internacionales en evangelismo, discipulado y ministerios de compasión y justicia; centrándonos en aquello a lo que nos llama el Maestro.

Este segundo mes de promoción de la Ofrenda Misionera Mundial de la familia bautista americana en EE.UU. y Puerto Rico (ofrendamisioneramundial.org), les compartimos acerca de estas unidades misioneras que se preparan para salir a servir con otras agencias misioneras. A Kaylee la conocimos en Puerto Rico durante la bienal. Los Rai y los Ballinger son compañeros de seminario de nuestro primogénito. Nos gozamos al ver que hay juventud y familias que siguen respondiendo al llamado a ir a donde el Señor envía. Le animamos a orar por ellos, buscarlos y apoyarlos, según lo sienta. Tanto los de casa como éstos y muchos otros servimos al mismo Dios; es Su misión y es con Sus recursos. Si miramos las misiones de manera integral y derribamos los muros que nos separan, como si fueran reinos en competencia, avanzaríamos más en el cumplimiento de la tarea que nos ha sido encomendada.

Este mes de octubre damos gracias al Señor por comenzar un nuevo año fiscal, por celebrar 14 años de nuestra ordenación, por haber estado en Colombia y conocer familias como la Petit Frías, por saber que hay personas que se preparan para servir dentro de la nuestra y en otras agencias misioneras. Y por más difícil que han sido estos últimos cuatro años de no vivir internacionalmente, damos gracias al Señor que nos sigue considerando para que sigamos a Su servicio. Noviembre, diciembre y enero serán meses de reconectar en persona con nuestros socios en países donde servimos. Seguimos haciendo discípulos y discípulas en Iberoamérica y El Caribe y contamos con las oraciones, entusiasmo y ofrendas de Su pueblo. Gracias por la generosidad que nos permite seguir impartiendo luz como la vela y abriendo las alas como el pavo real para que conozcan al Camino, la Verdad y la Vida. “Esta pequeña luz, la dejaré brillar…”
