In 1996, the year we had our first-born son, we bought some place mats which have traveled with us to each of the different countries we have served. Now you can see what we used to guide our lessons this year. Our Christian faith has its roots in the history and faith of God’s chosen people. We have so much to learn from our Jewish roots from which springs that tree into which we have been grafted as born-again followers of Jesus Christ, Y’shua Ha’Mashiah, the Anointed Messiah of Israel and of all who believe in Him as Lord and Savior.

In 1992, 1993, and 1996 we had the awesome privilege of living and spending long periods of time in Jerusalem. One of the apartments we lived in had a view to Bethlehem when looking out of our kitchen window (pic above). Bethlehem means “house of bread” and Jesus is our “bread of life” (John 6:35). He is the One we follow, and He is the One we share with others who are seeking to find Him and to follow Him as disciples of the Way. Bethlehem is where Jesus was born so it seems quite appropriate to make that connection between the “house of lechem” and Him being the “lechem of life”.

This month we will be reconnecting with our partners in Colombia, the Wayuu in The Guajira, siblings in Cúcuta, Cartagena, and Bogotá (including migrants from Venezuela). These are those we met in 2018 and could only spend a year with as we relocated to Florida in 2019. We are grateful that through technology, we remained in touch and can now resume in person ministry with them through discipleship encounters. While in Colombia, we will also visit some of Carlos’ relatives as well as have him celebrate his high school 50^th graduation anniversary. It will be a time of reconnecting and rejoicing in God’s faithfulness. This is our first trip to Colombia since November 2019 (Carlos) and February 2020 (Mayra).

This year draws to a close as did Mayra’s dad’s earthly life this past March 17^th after his 88^th birthday on March 2^nd. When attending the home-going service on March 30^th, his faithful kelev Max remained close by as if knowing the connection. God’s creation, people and animals, the skies and the earth, everything is interconnected. The same with words and life.

As 2024 is around the corner, may each of you go back and review all we have learned this year through the Hebrew alphabet, and anticipate what we will learn, live out, and teach others for years to come. We are trusting God to provide our lechem as He provided manna, and many of you are His vessels as you share the adequate resources for our ministry in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean. Next month we go back to square one: Chile. Because our ministry fulfilled Acts 1:8 starting in Jerusalem in the 90s (including Judea and Samaria) and started in 2000 through ABFMS in Chile (the ends of the earth!), we know YHWH YIRE as that God is faithful, much more than Papi’s faithful dog, Max, who is just an example.

Let us continue learning from the faithfulness of a kelev like Max (or Caleb from the same root) as we share the lechem of life we have in the One born in the house of lechem! We step into 2024 as our promised land of opportunities of service, with the same faith Caleb and Joshua had against all the giants they knew existed yet chose to trust the God who sent them!

Kaf – Lamed…

En diciembre, llegamos al final del 2023 y las lecciones de discipulado de este año con base en el alfabeto hebreo. Las letras de este mes son kaf y lamed. Kaf con kelev que significa perro y lamed con lechem que significa pan… Al prepararnos para nuestro segundo viaje misionero internacional post-pandemia este mes (a Colombia), aprendamos del perro y el pan…

En 1996, cuando nació nuestro primogénito, compramos manteles que todavía tenemos y llevamos a cada país donde servimos. Ahora ven qué nos guió en las lecciones de este año. Nuestra fe cristiana tiene raíces en la historia y fe del pueblo que Dios creó. Tenemos tanto que aprender de nuestras raíces judías y del árbol natural al que somos injertados, como seguidores nacidos de nuevo en Jesucristo, Y’shua Ha’Mashiah, el Mesías Ungido de Israel y de toda persona que crea en Él como Señor y Salvador.

En el 1992, 1993 y 1996 tuvimos el privilegio maravilloso de pasar tiempo extendido y vivir en Jerusalén. Uno de los apartamentos donde vivimos tenía vista a Belén desde la ventana de la cocina (foto arriba). Belén (beit-lechem) significa “casa de pan” y Jesús es nuestro “pan de vida” (Juan 6:35). Él es a quien seguimos y compartimos con quienes buscan encontrarlo y seguirlo como discípulas y discípulos del Camino. Belén es donde nació Jesús y muy apropiado hacer la conexión entre la “casa de lechem” y Él ser el “lechem de vida”.

Este mes nos reconectaremos con socios de misión en Colombia; los Wayuu en La Guajira, hermanas y hermanos en Cúcuta, Cartagena y Bogotá (incluyendo migrantes de Venezuela). Son quienes conocimos en el 2018 y solo pudimos compartir por un año cuando tuvimos que reubicamos en Florida en 2019. Gracias a la tecnología permanecimos comunicados y ahora retomamos ministerio en persona a través de encuentros de discipulado. En Colombia también visitaremos algunos familiares de Carlos y él celebrará los 50 años de graduación de escuela superior. Será tiempo de reconexión y regocijarnos en la fidelidad de Dios. Es nuestro primer viaje a Colombia desde noviembre 2019 (Carlos) y febrero 2020 (Mayra).

Este año llega a su fin así como la vida terrenal del papá de Mayra el pasado 17 de marzo tras su cumpleaños 88 el 2 de marzo. Al ir al culto de celebración el 30 de marzo, su fiel kelev Max se mantuvo cerca como reconociendo la conexión. La creación de Dios, las personas y los animales, los cielos y la tierra, todo está interconectado. También las palabras y la vida.

El 2024 se acerca, y es bueno repasar las lecciones aprendidas este año a través del alfabeto hebreo, anticipando qué vamos a aprender, vivir y enseñar (A.V.E.) en los años por venir. Confiamos en Dios que proveerá nuestro lechem como proveyó manna y Sus vehículos para compartir los recursos necesarios para nuestro ministerio en Iberoamérica y El Caribe son ustedes. El próximo mes regresamos al principio: Chile. Porque nuestro ministerio cumplió Hechos 1:8 empezando en Jerusalén en los 90s (incluyendo Judea y Samaria) y comenzó en el 2000 a través de Ministerios Internacionales en Chile (¡lo último de la tierra!), sabemos que YHWH YIRE pues Él es fiel, mucho más que el fiel Max de Papi quien nos sirve de ejemplo.

Sigamos aprendiendo de la fidelidad de un kelev como Max (o Caleb de la misma raíz) al compartir el lechem de vida que tenemos en quien nació en la casa de lechem. Entramos al 2024 como nuestra tierra prometida de oportunidades de servicio, con la misma fe que Caleb y Josué tenían aún viendo los gigantes, pero escogiendo confiar en el Dios que nos envía.
