For many of us, mission is something we deeply care about—but aren’t always sure how to step into personally. The good news is that meaningful mission engagement doesn’t have to start big. It often begins with small, intentional steps that grow over time—steps you can take as an individual, with a small group, or as an entire church.
Start as an Individual
Personal engagement in mission can be simple, relational, and deeply impactful:
- Learn the name and story of one global servant—follow their updates and pray regularly for them.
- Write a note or email of encouragement to a missionary or ministry partner.
- Set aside a small monthly gift to support a global servant or a specific ministry initiative.
- Develop a habit of praying for one country or people group each week.
- Share what you’re learning about global mission with friends or family to spark awareness.
Engage as a Small Group
Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and small groups can engage in mission together in creative ways:
- “Adopt” a global servant as a group—pray for them regularly and stay connected through updates.
- Host a virtual call or Q&A with a missionary to hear firsthand about their ministry context.
- Organize a simple fundraiser, such as a shared meal, bake sale, or craft night, to support a missionary.
- Spend one gathering focused on learning about a specific country, including prayer and cultural awareness.
Engage as a Church
Church-wide mission engagement can grow from small, intentional practices:
- Partner with and regularly highlight one or more global servants during worship or in newsletters.
- Commit to supporting a specific project for a year as a congregation.
- Host a mission-focused event, such as a speaker, cultural night, or prayer gathering.
- Encourage intergenerational involvement by inviting youth and adults to participate together in mission activities.
- Create opportunities for members to explore short-term service or long-term calling.
Mission isn’t just something we send others to do—it’s something we’re all invited to participate in. Start small, stay consistent, and trust that God can use even simple steps to deepen your connection to His work around the world.
