February is short, so we’ll make this edition short and sweet… This month’s letters are bet and shin. Bet stands for bayit which means house and shin for shemesh which means sun. Let’s see how these words intertwine with our discipleship experiences…

During the pandemic, most of us had to be house bound. Not a lot of sun for many, unless walking in your own backyards. This was most certainly a time that claustrophobics had a hard time with. In some places, they still do… It also may have been a time for others to think outside the box even when bound to being in the house most of the time. This is how we began sharing the discipleship encounters online. Technology made it possible for us to reach out to others without having to get on a plane or out of our houses.

When we served in Spain, Emilio came to Dènia where we were sharing every other Tuesday. That affirmed his calling to prepare to serve the Lord and led him to study at the seminary in Madrid. Today, Emilio is one of the active pastors and leaders in the convention and it is a blessing to see God at work in his life. It is a joy to see him, his wife and daughters serving together in ministry.

Christ-First was the only short-term mission team that we hosted while in our abbreviated term of service in Spain. They also came to serve with us in Nicaragua alongside our siblings from New Jersey in one of their two teams. We are glad that for the third time we are able to visit and serve with them in California this month. Then we prepare for our third trip to Puerto Rico on this US/PR assignment. May His sun rise and shine brightly upon your house and our house this month and always! (Matthew 5:45 BG’s paraphrase)

Bet Shin…

Febrero es corto, así que este boletín será corto y dulce… Las letras de este mes son bet y shin. Bet representa bayit que significa casa y shin representa shemesh que significa sol. Veamos cómo estas palabras se entrelazan en nuestras experiencias de discipulado…

Durante la pandemia, nos tocó limitarnos a estar en la casa. No mucho sol para muchos, a menos que camináramos en nuestros patios. No fue un tiempo agradable para personas claustrofóbicos. En algunos lugares, todavía no lo es… También pudo ser un tiempo para otros que pensamos fuera de lo tradicional aunque también nos tocó estar atados a la casa casi todo el tiempo. Así comenzamos a compartir los encuentros de discipulado en línea. La tecnología nos permitió acercarnos sin tener que subir a un avión ni salir de nuestras casas.

Cuando servimos en España, Emilio venía a Dènia donde compartíamos cada martes de por medio. Allí afirmó su llamado a servir al Señor y de ir a estudiar al seminario en Madrid. Hoy, Emilio es un pastor activo y líder en la convención. Es una bendición ver a Dios obrar en su vida. Es un gozo verlo junto a su esposa e hijas sirviendo en el ministerio.

Christ-First fue la única iglesia que llegó a España a servir con un grupo voluntario en nuestra breve estadía. También nos acompañaron en Nicaragua junto a los de New Jersey que estuvieron en una de las veces. Nos alegra que por tercera vez los acompañamos este mes sirviendo con ellos en California. Luego nos prepararemos para el tercer viaje a Puerto Rico en este tiempo de transición. Que Su sol salga y brille sobre tu casa y la nuestra este mes y siempre… (Mateo 5:45 parafraseado por sus BGs)
