December: Have you noticed that in order to accomplish your goals, it is best to have the support of many around you? Those who love and care about you and who are willing to invest in your life as you invest in theirs? That is why we prefer a (large) village to be in His service internationally…

We began our journey in the year 2000 within the Old Covenant. Little did we know that within our first term, key things would change; and, we would be exposed to a different support system within our mission society: a New Covenant… With all the challenges it has brought, we are honestly grateful for this New Covenant while keeping the spirit of the Old Covenant in how we relate to our network of siblings in Christ.

Though the Mission Partnership Teams (MPT) began before our first US/PR assignment, our MPT was the first one for which Ruthie Stevenson provided orientation. It was in April 2005 and that gathering took place at Freedom in Christ Baptist Church in Middlesex, New Jersey. Sadly, we did not take a pic of that day. Yet, though we have had changes of siblings in our team, there are three that have remained since day one: Betty Burger, Dick Sharber, and Lee Riggs. There is someone else who has been with us since then to whom we will now be sad to say “see you later”: Ruthie Stevenson…

Since 1814 there has been plenty of changes in our mission society and the ones we have experienced since 2000 when we began have strengthened our determination and commitment to continue serving God in response to His call in our lives. Ruthie has managed to stay connected to so many MPTs and encourages us all in a variety of ways. We pray that, as an MPTer herself, Ruthie will continue to provide guidance into this new phase of ministry for so many of us, rookies and oldies alike.

No matter our country of service, Ruthie would have a word of encouragement and a strategy to stay connected. No matter what financial bump we faced, Ruthie would have a word to guide us and our MPTers into untapped resources. We pray that the prayer shawl Jan Jackson (one of our newer MPTers) prepared for Ruthie as she retires, will be an encouragement to her on behalf of our BGs USA-MPTers, the ones she oriented on that first cohort and the ones God has added since. We are grateful for each of our MPTers, originals and current. It does take a large village to serve in the field!

Now, it not only takes a large USA/PR village to serve in the field, but while being in the field as migrants there is a larger village to serve with as well. During our first months in Colombia we have met with our national siblings in Cali and Bogota: UNIBAUTISTA, SEPAZ Foundation, Baptist Denomination of Colombia, and Family of God Baptist Church. We met a Wayuu sister from The Guajira—a student at UNIBAUTISTA. We’ve also met with Carlos’ siblings and friends in Medellín and Bogotá. We love family reunions! We will introduce each of our partners and siblings in Colombia one at a time in our next few Acts in Action. Stay tuned and please keep us in your prayers!

This Christmas and New Year’s, as you look around at your loved ones and neighbors, be sure to hug them and tell them that you love them! Rejoice with us! Emmanuel continues to be in our midst and gives us hope and a reason to live, believe, and serve. We are grateful for His birth, for our loved ones and neighbors, and for those He has allowed us to serve with in this large and growing village around the world through social media, WhatsApp, correspondence, visits, and the powerful link of prayer and chords of love. Merry Christmas and a happy and blessed 2019!

Diciembre: ¿Te has dado cuenta de que para lograr tus metas, es mejor contar con el apoyo de quienes te rodean? ¿De quienes te aman y te cuidan y tienen disposición de invertir en tu vida como tú inviertes en la suya? Por eso preferimos una (gran) aldea para servir a Dios internacionalmente…

Empezamos este peregrinaje en el año 2000 bajo el Antiguo Pacto. No teníamos idea de que, en medio de nuestro primer término, habría cambios significativos; y, nos expondríamos a un sistema de apoyo diferente dentro de nuestra sociedad misionera: un Nuevo Pacto… Con todos los desafíos que ha traído, honestamente estamos agradecidos por este Nuevo Pacto a la par que conservamos el espíritu del Antiguo en la manera que interactuamos con nuestra red de hermandad en Cristo.

Aunque la Misión Participativa Transcultural (MPT) empezó antes de nuestra primera asignación doméstica, nuestro MPT fue el primero que Ruthie Stevenson orientó. Fue en abril de 2005 y nos reunimos en FICBC en Middlesex, New Jersey. Tristemente, no tomamos foto ese día. Pero, aunque ha habido cambios de participación en el equipo, hay tres que han permanecido desde el primer día: Betty Burger, Dick Sharber y Lee Riggs. Hay alguien más que ha estado con nosotros desde entonces y a quien nos dará pena decirle “hasta luego” este mes: Ruthie Stevenson…

Desde el 1814 han sido muchos los cambios y los que hemos vivido desde el 2000 han reforzado nuestro compromiso de seguir sirviendo a Dios en respuesta a Su llamado a nuestras vidas. Ruthie se ha mantenido en contacto con tantos MPTs y nos alienta a todos de variadas maneras. Oramos que, al ser ella también una MPT, Ruthie siga proveyendo dirección en esta nueva fase de ministerio para nosotros, tanto novatos y veteranos.

Sin importar el país de servicio, Ruthie ha tenido palabra de aliento y estrategias para mantener la conexión. Sin importar el desafío financiero que vivamos, Ruthie ha tenido palabra de dirección para nosotros y nuestros MPTers acerca de recursos sin agotar. Oramos que el manto de oración que le tejió Jan Jackson (una de nuestras más recientes MPTers) con motivo de su retiro, sea de aliento para ella en nombre de nuestro BGs EEUU-MPTers, quienes ella orientó en aquel primer grupo y quienes Dios ha traído desde entonces. Estamos agradecidos de cada persona en nuestro MPT, originales, en el camino y actuales. ¡Necesitamos una gran aldea para servir!

Ahora, no solo hace falta una gran aldea en EEUU/PR para servir en el extranjero, sino que mientras estamos como migrantes hay una aldea más grande con la que servimos. En estos primeros meses en Colombia visitamos a nuestra hermandad en Cali y Bogotá: UNIBAUTISTA, Fundación SEPAZ, la Denominación Bautista de Colombia y la IB Familia de Dios. Conocimos a nuestra hermana Wayuu de La Guajira—estudiante en la UNIBAUTISTA. También hemos visitado a los hermanos y amistades de Carlos en Medellín y Bogotá. ¡Amamos las reuniones familiares! Les presentaremos en nuestras próximas ediciones de Hechos en Acción. ¡A estar pendientes y seguir manteniéndonos en oración, por favor!

Esta Navidad y Año Nuevo, al compartir con tus seres amados y vecinos, ¡asegúrate de abrazarles y decirles que les amas! ¡Regocijémonos! Emanuel sigue estando con nosotros y nos da esperanza y razones para vivir, creer y servir.
