GoalThe goal of this project is to provide scholarships for ethnic minority children at the House of Blessing in Thailand.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $11,766 annually to supplement the cost of education for 65 minority children in Thailand.
DescriptionThe House of Blessing in Chiang Mai, Thailand has supported education for 20+ years through a preschool and scholarship program for local tribal children. 95% of graduates were accepted into the Thai public school system since the program began. More than 65 children have received partial scholarships at various grade levels. While public schools are free, the additional costs of uniforms, backpacks, supplies, transportation and meals adds up. For families in extreme poverty, that may be 25% of their annual income per child. On the first day of school the HoB’s social worker noticed that one of the preschool graduates was at home rather than in kindergarten. Her parents simply could not afford the uniforms and hope they can afford it next year. By the end of that day, the child had received the needed uniforms as well as a backpack full of school supplies and was in school the next day. Another young man was orphaned a few years into elementary school. While his grandparents were able to take him in, they were not sure they could pay for him to go to school. The teachers at the House of Blessing kept in contact with his grandparents, gave him some scholarship funds, and encouraged him to stay in school. Last year he was accepted into university with a major in IT. He hopes to be able to take care of his grandparents in a few years. Your support of this project helps families in crisis with a scholarship to keep their child in school. The long-term goal of this project is to lessen one of the barriers families face to keep their children in school in Thailand. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and gives these students the opportunity for better jobs in the future which improve the lives of their families and communities. The project total cost is $35,300 over 3 years, or $11,766 per year.
Suggested GiftsA gift of $1,000 will fully support supplemental education costs for 5 elementary school students for 1 year. A gift of $5,000 will support the supplemental education costs for 30 elementary students for 1 year. A generous gift of $10,000 will provide for the education costs – tuition and supplement costs – for 75 children for a year in grades K – College.
Prayer RequestsPray for the funding as this scope of the project continues to grow annually. Praise God that this project has grown from helping a few children to helping more than 65 get an education each year. Pray that this project has a long lasting and far-reaching impact on the families of these ethnic children.
