GoalThe goal of this project is to provide specialized skills, equipment and training to low-income adults in South Africa to break the cycle of poor nutrition, poverty and unemployment.
SummaryThis project aims to raise $65,195 annually to mentor a dozen low-income adults in South Africa each year and provide specialized skills, equipment, and training to break the cycle of poor nutrition, poverty, and unemployment.
DescriptionSouth Africa was significantly impacted by the HIV epidemic from the 1980s to the 2010s. The HIV-related deaths affected the middle-aged generation the most, leaving the younger generation without the essential knowledge typically passed down from parents. This led to a decline in gardening and farming skills, as well as an increase in the consumption of processed foods. Alongside the loss of employment in farming, they face reduced physical activity, lower income, and fewer nutritious food options.
IM Global Servants Dr. Rick and Dr. Anita Gutierrez offer hope to unemployed adults in South Africa by combining their medical expertise with the agriculture ministry they have led. Through this project, they will teach and equip 12 local leaders each year to operate their own poultry production, fruit tree nursery, seedling nursery, fruit orchard, and vegetable production facilities at home. Rick and Anita will provide ongoing training, relationship building, and discipleship within these communities.
By equipping local adults with these essential skills, they positively impact more than just themselves. Participants can provide income for their families, essential nutrition, and can also train others in their newly acquired skills and techniques. Furthermore, participants can enhance poultry breeds, replicate fruit trees for widespread propagation, and distribute them locally.
