Dear friend,
Thank you for journeying and partnering with me in my international mission work. God is alive and moving throughout the world!
As God often does, He calls us to one mission and then to another in His perfect timing. That is precisely what God is doing in my life right now. God is leading me to return to the classroom to teach French and Spanish. Additionally, God is calling me to join Peter at a higher level of involvement at the local church where he is currently pastoring in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
If you are familiar with our initial call to mission story, a big part of that was doing ministry and missions together as a couple & family. In the past few months, God has gently reminded me of this and has burdened my heart to do ministry and missions side-by-side with Peter. At this moment, we are both involved in ministry and fully support each other; however, we are on different paths. While I have enjoyed my current position, it only allows us to fulfill this side-by-side ministry to a lesser extent than I feel God is calling us to. God is calling us back to the same path and to do ministry together.
My last day as a Regional Coordinator for Education in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean with International Ministries is July 31, 2024. Following that, I will begin my new position as a Spanish teacher at a local high school. However, I will continue with International Ministries in a volunteer role as a Special Assistant for Education in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean. Essentially doing what I am currently doing but on a smaller scale & volunteer basis. This will allow me to continue building relationships with IM partners and Global Servants involved in K-12 education, assisting them as time and funds permit. I will also continue managing my two projects: Mini Libraries for the Talita Cumi Girls Clubs (TCGC) and the Deborah’s House tutoring project. Both were adopted this summer as a yearly state project by two different American Baptist Women’s Ministry Regions! Additionally, I will take over managing three projects from Patti Long, who will retire soon. These projects include a hot meals project, a books and school supplies project, and a STEP (tuition assistance) project for Didaque School in Tijuana, Mexico. While many current supporters will continue to support these projects, all three need new financial donors as they are not fully funded. These projects support the Didaque School every school year and its outreach to the neediest children of Tijuana, including special needs students.
What does this mean for you as my prayer and financial supporters? You may continue to pray for my family and me. We are truly grateful for your prayers. Please pray for our family, our health, our ministries, our children, and as the Lord leads. You can continue your current financial gift to my mission work by transferring your giving to any of the five projects I will manage (see above links to each project OR call IM Donor Services at [610]768-2323 to request your gift be switched to one of the above listed projects. The STEP project is in most need of new donors). Alternatively, you may transfer your mission giving support to one of my colleagues who need new ongoing support. These colleagues are related to my ministry priorities (education & TCGC): Jae Stockton (assists with the hybrid tutoring program at Deborah’s House in Tijuana), Sarah (Luis) Matos (assists with the TCGC program and other ministry needs in Mexico), Deliris (Moise) Carrion-Joseph (leads Deborah’s House ministry in Tijuana), and Eliberto and Molly Juarez (implement and train volunteers in an educational program based on biblical values that teaches peacebuilding in public schools in El Salvador). I hope you will continue your financial mission giving to one of these projects or another missionary.
As a Special Assistant I will take one or two short-term mission trips per year during the summer or during a school break and of course as time & funds permit. On these trips, I will visit project locations, meet with IM Education partners, deliver mini libraries to Talita Cumi Girls Clubs mentors/country coordinators, teach my literacy seminar, or assist in some other educational capacity.
Love in Christ,
Sarah McCurdy
