December: Throughout this US/PR assignment, we spent the first six months in Puerto Rico (December 2016-June 2017). What an awesome opportunity to visit many churches, friends, and family as well as to prepare Mayra’s mom to sell/move out of her house in Caguas. It was a painful process for all involved, and in the end, we just kept Mayra’s rocking chair and a few suitcases and boxes in a storage space. We are not sure if they survived the hurricanes, but that’s what we left behind.

We spent the second six months in the USA (June-November 2017). What a joy to also visit so many churches, friends, and family. All in all, we slept in more than 80 beds, traveled about 45,000 miles (72,000 km) by air and by land, and shared 1,095 meals with people we care for and deeply love! We truly appreciate the empathy we felt from all of you in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria through Puerto Rico.

We have been houseless since 1992 when we left Puerto Rico to embark on a journey in line with Acts 1.8 and Mayra’s mom has joined our houseless family. Yet, we have never been homeless, as there are so many in our path that join us in fulfilling Matthew 19.29 for us, “And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.”

This has been an emotionally/spiritually exhilarating year, while also being a physically exhausting one… We left Nicaragua in December of 2016 and have seen God at work each step of the way… Our spirits are recharged… Now it is time to let our physical bodies to recharge… Hence, we will be changing gears at our temp home in Florida (January onwards) before embarking on our new assignment to COLOMBIA…

UNIBAUTISTA (the Baptist University) invited us to accompany them in the program of discipleship, especially among ethnic groups in the Guajira Northern Region of Colombia. We will also provide support for the Global Baptist Peace Conference to be held in Colombia in 2019; hence this new assignment covers two of our Focus Impact Areas (FIA) within the Responding to the Call (RTC) initiative: Discipleship and Peace and Justice. While being “champions” for global discipleship, we will be traveling from Colombia to other Iberoamerica and the Caribbean countries–as well as other regions–to share the Bible study materials we have prepared: Of the Way. We are the first commissioned global servant unit assigned to live and serve in Colombia by ABFMS since 1814, yet we recognize the long-standing ministry of our Puerto Rican colleague Walla Febres and her Colombian husband Leo Florez, with whom we will join efforts in discipleship with ethnic groups in the country.

We pray the Lord will keep recharging us physically, spiritually, and financially as we complete this 2017 and head into the New 2018. To serve internationally, all global servants need to be at 100% before departure! The one Who was born in Bethlehem is more than able to provide for everyone… May He provide you a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New 2018 in this post-Hurricanes era for so many of us. Please, stand in the gap as we keep recharging for service…

Diciembre: Durante nuestra asignación en EE.UU./Puerto Rico, vivimos los primeros seis meses en Puerto Rico (diciembre 2016-junio 2017). Qué oportunidad hermosa para visitar Iglesias, amistades y familia, así como preparar a la mamá de Mayra para vender/mudarse de su casa en Caguas. Fue un proceso doloroso para todos, pero al final solo retuvimos la mecedora de Mayra y algunas maletas y cajas en una bodega. No sabemos si sobrevivieron los huracanes, pero fue lo que dejamos atrás.

Los segundos seis meses los vivimos en EE.UU. (junio-noviembre 2017). Qué gozo visitar a tantas Iglesias, amistades y familia. En general, dormimos en más de 80 camas, viajamos alrededor de 45,000 millas (72,000 km) por aire y tierra, y compartimos 1,095 comidas con quienes amamos tanto. Apreciamos mucho la empatía que sentimos de todos ustedes tras el paso de los Huracanes Irma y María por Puerto Rico.

No tenemos casa desde el 1992 que salimos de Puerto Rico en camino al comienzo del cumplimiento de Hechos 1.8 y la mamá de Mayra recién se unió a nuestra familia sin casa. Pero, nunca hemos estado sin hogar, porque son muchas las personas en nuestro camino que son parte del cumplimiento de Mateo 19.29, “Y todo el que haya dejado casas o hermanos o hermanas o padre o madre o hijos o bienes por mi causa recibirá cien veces más a cambio y heredará la vida eterna.”

Éste ha sido un año espiritualmente emocionante, a la par de ser uno físicamente drenante… Salimos de Nicaragua en diciembre de 2016 y hemos visto a Dios en cada paso… Nuestros espíritus están recargados… Ahora es momento para recargar nuestro cuerpo físico… Por lo tanto, cambiaremos el ritmo en nuestro hogar temporero en la Florida (desde enero) antes de embarcarnos en nuestra nueva asignación a COLOMBIA…

UNIBAUTISTA nos invitó a acompañarles en el programa de discipulado, especialmente entre grupos étnicos de la Guajira en la Región Norte de Colombia. También proveeremos apoyo en la Conferencia Global Bautista de Paz que se realizará en Colombia en el 2019; por lo que esta nueva asignación cubre dos de nuestras Áreas de Impacto Enfocado (FIA) dentro de la iniciativa de Respondiendo al Llamado (RTC): Discipulado y Paz y Justicia. Por ser los “campeones” para el discipulado global, viajaremos desde Colombia a otros países de Iberoamérica y El Caribe, así como a otras regiones, para compartir los materiales de estudio bíblico que hemos preparado: Los del Camino. Somos la primera unidad misionera de carrera asignada a Colombia por Ministerios Internacionales, mas reconocemos el ministerio duradero de nuestra colega puertorriqueña Walla Febres y su esposo colombiano Leo Florez, con quienes sumaremos esfuerzos en el discipulado entre grupos étnicos.

Oramos que el Señor nos siga recargando física, espiritual y financieramente al completar este 2017 y encaminarnos al 2018. Para servir internacionalmente, cada servidor global debe estar al 100% antes de salir… Aquél que nació en Belén es más que capaz de proveer a cada persona y necesidad. Que te provea una Navidad bendecida y un feliz año 2018 en esta era post post-Huracanes para muchos de nosotros. Por favor, ponte en la brecha mientras nos seguimos recargando para seguir sirviendo…
