Ben Chan, Area Director of East Asia, China and India shares this urgent prayer request:

Kati and Taku Longkumer, American Baptist International Ministries (IM) development workers, ask American Baptist churches to pray earnestly for a peaceful resolution to the serious conflict in Nagaland, northeast India.

“We are safe in Nagaland, but the internet is cut off, government buildings were set on fire, and there is curfew in major towns in Nagaland,” the Longkumers shared.

The political situation in Nagaland has been tense for almost a week due to clashes between the public and the government over changes introduced by the government to the municipal election process.

IM partner, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, has assisted in the negotiation between the government and the Naga civil organizations. Unfortunately, two unarmed Naga young people were killed in Dimapur during the demonstration on February 1, which further escalated the conflict.

Please pray for the people and the government of Nagaland to reach a peaceful resolution soon. Please pray for the leaders of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, and Taku and Katie as they give support to affected people and families.
