God calls us to serve and spread the Good News in all corners of the earth. One of our retired American Baptist pastors, living in Wallingford (CT) recently found himself journeying to Piura (Peru), to share his love of Christ to Peruvian brothers and sisters.
Here are his reflections: “My friend, Pastor Armando Ramos, from a ministry in Lima, Peru called the Evangelical Missionary Movement, discovered that I frequently go to Les Cayes, Haiti to teach a group of pastors with the Bethesda Evangelical Mission.
Pastor Armando, who now lives in Manchester, CT, asked me to join him in a week-long mission trip to Piura, Peru. We flew into Lima, and then to a smaller airport in Piura, 500 miles North (toward the Equator).
I was inspired by the enthusiastic singing and worship of my brothers and sisters in Christ. I sensed a deep commitment to reaching others around them – in the cities, the mountains and even the rain forest. These dedicated Christians were taking the Gospel beyond the borders of Peru as well.
The hospitality and graciousness of the Peruvian Christians was a joy to experience. I had the privilege of preaching in three evening services at different churches, and twice on Sunday. I lectured to a group of pastors on the topic of “Preaching From the Gospel of John”. All was enthusiastically received.
The new relationships and friendships I formed, the devotional love for Jesus, and the openness to my ministry (despite the fact that I needed an interpreter) was a joyous experience.
I want to thank the ABC-USA, International Ministries for their encouragement and support by offering free AIG travel accident insurance.”
