We continue to train doctors in Family Medicine.  But how to pick the best candidates for the Vanga Family Medicine residency?  This Family Medicine residency program was started in the 1980s by Dr. Dan Fountain, the International Ministries missionary and father of Katherine Niles, our close collaborator in the medical work here in Congo.

The process starts with letting people know that we are recruiting for the next class of residents here in Vanga.  We ask them to submit their paperwork, including their national medical license.

Once these documents are gathered, we set a testing date.  We have written a test bank of questions that we think does a good job of identifying the doctors with the academic ability and language skills (French and English) to succeed in this rigorous training program.  After the test is scored, the doctors who passed the exam are interviewed, either in person or over the telephone.  We are looking for strong Christian candidates with high moral caliber who will be able to minister to the whole person–body, soul, and mind.  If all goes well, we offer these doctors a position to start the training at Vanga Hospital.

There was a total of 19 candidates who registered for the exam this year.   Out of that group, we only have the capacity for 4 to start the four-year Family Medicine program this year.   Pray for wisdom as we continue with this process.
