April: This month everybody is frantic about the IRS, yet we beg to differ and offer you another perspective of what those three letters can mean to you. Do you respond to the IRS because you have to, or because you want to? That is the question…

For USA citizens and legal residents, each April 15th means the day to submit a report of the previous year’s earnings to the IRS (the Internal Revenue Services). At times there will be a refund to the taxpayer, but most of the time the taxpayer will still have to pay an amount after all the math is done. That is in the USA/PR IRS system.

But, this year, our mission society has come up with something much better to look for on April 15th and we, your BGs, want to call it our IRS (Immediate Response Solicitation). It is the 2018 Spring Match…

This year’s Spring Match will provide a good opportunity for current donors to increase your commitment and for new donors to start giving to our ministry. A very generous donor has made $100,000 available for this year’s Spring Match, so please take advantage of this opportunity to give to our ongoing support and to any of our global servants’ colleagues. It is particularly timely to support our reaching 100% of our budget which is required before we can be sent to Colombia. It could reduce in half the time and effort to reach that goal by taking advantage of the 2018 Spring Match. It will run from April 15, 2018 until midnight June 15, 2018 or until funds are depleted, whichever comes first. Remember, increased gifts (annual or recurring) will be matched and new gifts will be matched.

It is the first time since 1814 that ABFMS sends a global servants’ unit to Colombia. With us, ABFMS will have a new country with physical presence serving with an international partner; a first in South America for our region and our mission society (since our area director and executive director came to office). Thanks to your support, your BGs will serve in Colombia once the $40,000 gap the 2017 hurricane season left us with is met by those of you who will stand in the gap on our behalf. Be sure to earmark your check or online gift after April 15th and before June 15th “2018 Spring Match-BGs Support” and any unit God leads you to bless. Our colleagues from Puerto Rico also need this boost to offset the gap created by last year’s hurricane season. Will you stand in the gap on our behalf during our next term while our churches in the Island rebuild, recover, and are renewed?

You will not be getting two Carlos’ and two Mayra’s to Colombia, but you get the picture—your gift will be doubled. If you usually send $5 and during the Spring Match you send $15, $10 x 2 = $20 and your gift will become $25. If you usually send $5,000 and during the Spring Match you send $15,000, $10,000 x 2 = $20,000 and your gift becomes $25,000. If you send $100 as a new donor, $100 x 2 = $200, your gift will become $200. There are so many ministry opportunities awaiting us in Colombia that we want to be sure to arrive in time to serve the people in the ways God has already been preparing us for!

Believe us when say, these reminders are important. We’ve been in our temp home for three months already and we still receive correspondence for the previous families (yes, in plural!).

In 2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV we read: “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” When you respond to our IRS give cheerfully, though there is a need, avoid giving reluctantly or under compulsion. Give what you have decided in your heart. By doing so, we’ll rejoice together as God allows us to impact the lives of the Wayuu in the Guajira Northern Region, as we support two peace conferences in Cali next July 2019, and as the Bible study materials “Of the Way” continue to impact the discipleship process wherever the Lord leads. Abril: Este mes todos se preocupan por el IRS, pero se nos antoja diferir y ofrecer otra perspectiva de lo que esas tres letras pueden significar. ¿Respondes al IRS por obligación o porque quieres? Esa es la pregunta…

Para personas ciudadanas o residentes legales en EE.UU., cada 15 de abril significa someter el informe de ingresos del año anterior al IRS (el Internal Revenue Services, inglés). A veces hay reembolso, pero la mayoría de las veces la persona contribuyente todavía queda debiendo y debe pagar al completar los números. Eso es así en el sistema del IRS en EE.UU./PR.

Pero, este año, Ministerios Internacionales (MI) tiene algo mejor a lo que anticipar con gozo este 15 de abril y tus BGs queremos llamarle nuestro IRS (Inmediata Respuesta Solicitada). Es el Pareo de Primavera 2018…

Este año el Pareo de Primavera proveerá una buena oportunidad para que donantes actuales aumenten sus promesas y para que nuevos donantes puedan comprometerse y dar a nuestro ministerio. Un donante muy generoso ofrendó $100,000, así que aprovecha la oportunidad para dar a nuestro apoyo continuo y al de nuestros colegas en misión. Para nosotros es particularmente oportuno para alcanzar la meta del 100% del presupuesto que se nos requiere para poder ser enviados a Colombia. Podríamos reducir a la mitad el tiempo y el esfuerzo para alcanzar esta meta al aprovechar este Pareo. Funcionará desde el 15 de abril de 2018 hasta la medianoche del 15 de junio de 2018 o hasta que se agoten los fondos, lo que ocurra primero. Recuerda, ofrendas adicionales (anuales o recurrentes) serán duplicadas y nuevas ofrendas serán duplicadas.

Es la primera vez desde el 1814 que MI envía una unidad de servicio global en Colombia. Con nosotros, MI tendrá un nuevo país con presencia física con sus socios en misión; primicia en América del Sur para la región y para MI. En unidad y gracias a tu aporte, tus BGs serviremos en Colombia una vez se cierre la brecha de $40,000 que nos dejó la temporada de huracanes del 2017; con el apoyo de personas como tú que se pongan en la brecha a nuestro favor. Recuerda anotar en tu cheque o donativo online a partir del 15 de abril y antes del 15 de junio “Pareo de Primavera 2018-Apoyo a los BGs” o la unidad que Dios te indique bendecir. Nuestros colegas en Puerto Rico también necesitan este empujoncito para mitigar la brecha causada por la temporada de huracanes del año pasado. ¿Nos acompañas en la brecha en este próximo término mientras nuestras iglesias en la Isla se reconstruyen, recuperan y son renovadas?

No enviarás a dos Carlos y a dos Mayras a Colombia, pero entiende—tu ofrenda será duplicada. Si usualmente ofrendas $5 y durante el Pareo de Primavera envías $15, $10 x 2 = $20 y tu ofrenda se convierte en $25. Si usualmente ofrendas $5,000 y durante el Pareo de Primavera envías $15,000, $10,000 x 2 = $20,000 y tu ofrenda se convierte en $25,000. Si ofrendas $100 como tu primer donativo, $100 x 2 = $200, tu ofrenda se convierte en $200. Hay tantas oportunidades de ministerio que nos esperan en Colombia que queremos llegar a tiempo para servir a las personas en todas las maneras para las que Dios ya nos ha estado preparando.

Créenos al decirte que estos recordatorios son importantes. Hemos vivido ya tres meses en nuestro hogar temporero y seguimos recibiendo correspondencia para las familias anteriores (¡sí, en plural!).

En 2 Corintios 9:7 DHH leemos: “Cada uno debe dar según lo que haya decidido en su corazón, y no de mala gana o a la fuerza, porque Dios ama al que da con alegría.” Cuando contestes a nuestro IRS da con alegría; aunque hay una necesidad, evita dar de mala gana o a la fuerza. Da según lo hayas decidido en tu corazón. Al hacerlo, nos gozaremos juntos al ver cómo Dios nos permite impactar las vidas de los Wayuu en la Guajira-Región Norte, al apoyar las dos conferencias de paz en Cali en julio de 2019 y según los materiales de estudio bíblico “Los del Camino” sigan impactando el proceso de discipulado donde el Señor nos guía. ¡Gracias por tu apoyo!
