GoalThe goal of this project is to build and nurture greater long-term resilience in the IM community by providing immediate care after a critical incident.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $35,334 annually in order to cover travel expenses, lodging & meals on-site for in-person spiritual care for our overseas and US-based global servants.
DescriptionOur global servants around the world often face times of crisis (manmade or natural). A critical incident is a traumatic event that overwhelms an individual's or group's ability to cope, often causing strong emotional reactions and potential interference with their ability to function normally. These events are generally unexpected, involve a threat to life, and can include physical or emotional loss. Research has proven that one of the most encouraging and stabilizing factors when we have experienced trauma is to have trusted companions come to walk beside us. When we know that we are not alone, that someone cares, that our story is safely held with no judgment or expectations, then our resilience is magnified. Political and economic unrest, in addition to environmental disasters, have been increasing at unprecedented rates. During the last five years, IM has seen global servants in Haiti, Lebanon, Bolivia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo all be evacuated and temporarily displaced. Global servants in S.E. Asia recently experienced excessive flooding that resulted in homes and ministry sites needing extensive repairs. That is why this project is being established. They know the value of someone showing up to provide care, counseling, and compassion in the midst of a traumatic event. While online therapy offers convenience and accessibility, particularly for expats in remote locations, in-person care remains crucial for providing comprehensive support that fosters deeper connections, addresses complex issues, and provides a safe and neutral space for healing and growth. The project total cost is $106,000 over 3 years, or $35,334 per year.
