In December 2025, International Ministries (IM) honored two faithful staff members, Karen Mason and Marc Kirkoff, as they retired. Colleagues, family, and friends gathered to honor their years of service with gratitude and fond memories.
Karen Mason concluded more than 26 years of service with IM, having begun her journey in March 1999. Over the decades, she became known for her extraordinary organizational skills and her ability to bring complex events to life with precision, creativity, and care. As the director of special events, Karen managed dozens of World Mission Conferences and helped establish IM’s presence at the American Baptist Biennial Mission Summits.
Using her background as a television producer, Karen brought both technical expertise and a deep understanding of people to her role. “We had no idea just how many ways Karen would contribute to the life of IM,” colleague Stan Slade shared. Her keen attention to detail was remarkable; she also offered broader insights and took initiative wherever needed. Karen was a steady presence and support to staff, global servants and partners throughout the years. Her deep faith and lasting friendships are as enduring and meaningful as the work she accomplished with IM.
Marc Kirkoff served with IM for just seven years before retiring. Yet, colleague Kyle Witmer contended that, “it feels as though his presence has been woven into the fabric of our work far longer than that.” Marc served first as a donor advisor and later as director of development. He was known for his attentiveness, humility, and ability to build genuine connections. Marc approached his work as a chance to partner with others. He saw it not as transactional, but as an opportunity to reflect the love and mission of God.
During his retirement celebration, colleagues recalled Marc’s ability to recognize grace in ordinary moments, seeing God at work in ways others often overlooked. Whether studying at Purdue University or the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, working in ministry before IM, or while serving with IM, Marc’s journey consistently demonstrates quiet faithfulness and trust in God’s provision and direction. He did not simply fulfill a role, but served in a way that left the imprint of Christ on each person he encountered.
International Ministries is grateful for Karen and Marc’s dedication and celebrates the lasting impact of their service as they begin new chapters in their lives.
