We celebrated Pentecost last month and are still meditating on the message of unity, healing, and hope that this event invites us to experience. The power of the Holy Spirit allows us to “imagine” all that God can do when we are serving Him. This month we celebrate Daniela’s 17th, Father’s Day, and “imagine” with the American Baptist Churches’ virtual meetings at the end of June.

Pentecost encourages us to be filled with the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Father’s will. We are reminded of a chorus, “Oh, I want more and more of Jesus. Oh, I want more of His mighty power. Oh, I want more of His sweet presence. Yes, I want more and more of Him.” Thus, we go forward in unity, equity, and justice; learning, living, and teaching others that which God teaches us.

We were surprised by God’s glory and saw unity in the vaccination clinics led by FBC Caguas, our home church in Puerto Rico. Those clinics impacted 1,200 people in 3 rounds of 2 doses. Other churches have also led similar clinics.

We were surprised by God’s glory and saw healing in those who have overcome COVID-19. We wish that all infected people would overcome the virus, but we also saw others called to their heavenly home. Amidst this mix of joy and deep sadness, God is present and fills us with His peace.

We were surprised by God’s glory and saw the hope produced within the online discipleship cohort we teach in Chile knowing that they have a family of faith in the USA and Puerto Rico that is keeping them in prayer. We also see that hope in our ongoing communications with families in Colombia, Nicaragua, and Spain. God created us to live in community and since Pentecost to live as part of His church. Thus, we learn as indicated in the book of Acts: “Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:43-47 CSB)

This month we have an opportunity to share with our colleagues in mission… Each unit needs to reach 100% of support pledged. This month of June, while resources are available, the monthly giving match returns for new and increased monthly giving for at least 12 consecutive months to any of your global servants’ units. $320,000 is the full matching pool available to be matched starting June 1st. Halfway through the month, almost half of the pool has been committed to bless many of us. The other half is waiting for your commitment to support us. All giving needs to go through the website.

Amidst challenges and difficulties that each of us experience where we are, we can sing: “Your hand holds me tight, Your Spirit gives me courage and onto victory You will lead me on…” We can imagine and build spaces of equity and justice where unity, healing, and hope excel and where the Lord adds to their number those who are being saved… Thanks for your ongoing support through your prayers, encouragement, and offerings like the World Mission Offering, matching opportunities, and special giving, that allow us to imagine community projects to bless the Wayuu in The Guajira, Colombia, which will empower them to overcome their vulnerable infrastructure and will provide them more fulfilling lives.

Thanks for celebrating Daniela’s 17th birthday with your BGs, Carlos’ fatherhood, and our being one of your families serving to share equity and justice as the Lord provides and leads. Thanks for keeping our arms up high as we fulfill the tasks we accepted and have been fulfilling for the past almost 21 consecutive years (July/August 2000) through the power of the Holy Spirit and many like you that continue sharing this journey. Yes, thanks for being part of our network through your prayers, encouragement, and finances. Let us imagine in this upcoming biennial mission summit what the Lord will continue to do and see how God’s glory will surprise us…
