We’re Here!

We have been here for a week. We are beyond grateful that we are able to serve through International Ministries here in Oaxaca, Mexico. Thank you for all of your prayers and support! In this newsletter we want to give you a peek into our first week on the ground.

The Move

On January 30th, bright and early at 3am, we started our journey to the airport and Oaxaca. Thank you to our church friends who drove us and all of our belongings. It was a long day of travel. Nora did pretty well besides one tantrum on the plane which I prayed everyone had noise cancelling headphones on. We arrived safely and exhausted. All of our bags arrived which seems to be a miracle these days. After we came out of immigration and customs we were greeted with big smiles and hugs from two couples of COBAMI.

¡Bienvenidos a Oaxaca!

We’re currently staying at a host family’s home, which is a family of one of the pastors while we look for housing (first picture is the beautiful view). Our temporary apartment was stocked with some groceries (see second picture) upon arrival. It was extremely kind and thoughtful of them. We definitely felt the warm Oaxacan welcome. Also, they purchased cute little cereals from home. So sweet! About every morning we were given a bag of fresh sweet bread and churro (see third picture is of Nora having her first churro). It has been great getting to know our partners around the table and sharing a meal together. They have been extremely helpful in getting us adapted to life here. We pray to find a place soon so we can unpack our suitcases and begin making a home here.

Exploring the City


Luis has registered for language school and will be starting classes this month. Luis will attend classes Monday through Friday for 4 hours each morning. Please pray for Luis. We are praying this school will be a good method for us to learn the culture too!		We were invited to attend one of COBAMI’s churches where Pastor Jaime is the pastor. This congregation has welcomed us with open arms and have been praying for us to arrive. It was a joy to finally be able to worship with them. They prayed over our family. We are grateful that we get to serve alongside this congregation.


After church, Pastor Jaime took us to a local restaurant where we were able to try Oaxacan mole. It was a great welcome to the “Land of 7 Moles.” We had black mole. It was delicious!		After registering for classes, our new friend showed us his favorite coffee shops around the language school. We tried different Oaxacan coffee. Nora had fun playing with another toddler at the cafe.

Our cultural and language learning
God to be present in our lives and our work
Finding a home and a car as it is a necessity to get around the city
God to help Luis in his language studies
Sarah to finish her classes to graduate this year from seminary
Nora to keep learning and making new friends
Sarah’s mother’s health as she goes through chemo
Building relationships with our partners and local communities
