The Chief Operations and Culture Officer will lead long-term sustainability efforts in program excellence, healthy relationships, and systems that support IM’s employees and ministry. They will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee daily operations in the organization, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient strategies that are grounded in IM missiology, fostering holistic care and a culture of belonging to meet current and future needs of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
- Ensure operational practices support long-term ministry goals described in IM’s Impact and Culture Strategy
- Establishes, communicates, and implements operations-related and facilities-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
- Operational Planning and Execution
- Policy creation and documentation
- Signatory on all IM Contract, Lease or Legal Agreements
- Collaborates with all other teams and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives while supplying expertise, support and guidance on operations projects and systems
- Identifies, recommends, and works with other team leaders to implement new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
Finance
- Ensures financial practices support long-term ministry goals described in IM’s Impact and Culture Strategy
- Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans, such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, hardware acquisitions, and facilities, are in line with the organization’s strategic plan and vision.
- Monitors financial performance, budget adherence, and financial projections while collaborating with others to identify areas for cost optimization and revenue growth.
- Reviews and approves all financial reports, estimates, and staffing needs to align with IM’s strategic plan
Culture and Belonging/Strategic Vision and Implementation
- Leads the development and implementation of IM’s integrated strategic plan – IM’s Impact and Culture Strategy – aligning with IM’s mission and goals.
- Provide leadership to the Vision Coordination Team (VCT) to establish, communicate, and implement policies and practices to ensure effective and consistent support while building a culture of belonging.
- Serves as key spokesperson for the organization’s values and commitment to cultural stewardship and belonging
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance employee engagement and inclusion
- Leads initiatives that promote diversity across all levels of the organization
- Fosters relationships that encourage collaboration and shared responsibility
- Collects and analyzes employee feedback to inform culture-related decisions
- Partner with leadership to integrate cultural initiatives into ministry objectives
- Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.
- Collaborates with the Board of Directors, providing them with information, executing directives approved by the CEO/Executive Director, and working on committees.
- Collaborates with American Baptist Foundation and IM CFO in directing gift policy, documentation, and record keeping of endowed and designated
- Visit churches, regions, and individuals and attend region mission events as a representative of IM and the Executive Director/CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education, License, Certification
- Master’s degree or Doctorate in leadership, organizational development, or another related field, master’s in business administration preferred.
Experience (job-related)
- At least 10 years of organizational leadership experience required, including a minimum of 3 years of executive-level management in an organization of similar or larger size.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Proven experience in a second-in-command role, especially in alignment and partnership with a CEO’s vision and direction.
- Commitment to the values and mission of International Ministers, with cross-cultural sensitivity and a global perspective.
- Strong understanding and experience in organizational operations, financial management, strategic planning, execution, and cultural stewardship.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, along with organization, with attention to detail.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with proven success leading, managing, and inspiring teams in cross-functional settings
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Advanced-level user with Microsoft Office Suite and the willingness to learn relevant software (SalesForce, NetSuite, Asana, and Canva are currently in use at IM
