GoalThe goal of this project is to launch a pilot program in Cuba to train local care providers in trauma healing through the arts.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $12,019 annually in order to train and certify Spanish speaking leaders in the EXIT model.
DescriptionExpressive Arts in Transition (EXIT) is an early intervention model started in Norway that is being offered for the first time in Latin America. Using play, movement and the arts, EXIT creates spaces where people affected by violence and disaster can imagine new possibilities and develop community practices to promote connection and healing. The EXIT project will train and certify Spanish speaking faith leaders, social service providers and peace builders, and offer confidence, capacity and community support. Local trainers will receive a weeklong intensive training and then implement the EXIT program in their own context for 10 weeks with coaching and supervision. This certificate program will create a network of trained service providers in trauma healing through the arts. More than one billion people have been affected by violence and disasters around the world. Every day, people affected by a crisis have to make decisions about how to use the skills and resources available to them to best meet their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. EXIT focuses on finding a sense of home internally in the physical body as well as spiritually in the Body of Christ. In many places there aren’t enough pastors, psychologists, doctors or counselors, and access to services can be difficult due to distance, cost and time. This project offers access to practical, arts-based skills for care providers starting in Cuba. The hope is to expand this pilot project to many other Spanish speaking countries. The project total cost is $36,059 over 3 years, or $12,019 per year.
Suggested GiftsA gift of $500 will provide art supplies & materials like paint, canvases, clay, paper, markers & scarves. A gift of $1,000 will cover the cost for 1 year of supervision & coaching for 10 graduates as they implement EXIT in their own contexts. A generous gift of $5,000 would provide 20 scholarships (food, housing, transportation) for participants.
Prayer RequestsPray that EXIT will create a regional indigenous trainer’s cohort community. Pray that the success of the pilot program will lead to training event in Nicaragua, Mexico & Ecuador. Pray that EXIT will support and equip leaders who are already providing vital help in their own communities and cultures.
