Corenne & Philip Smith

In the cruel and oppressive slums of Brazil, an estimated 7 to 8 million social orphans live in the streets and slums -- living, breathing refuse of desperately poor homes, abandoned by parents lost to addictions, violence, and crime. Left to fend for themselves, some survive as commodities for drugs, sex, and violent crime. Others don’t survive at all. In 1990, the street children of Brazil came to the attention of PHILIP, who founded the first rescue mission in Sao Paulo, and was later joined by CORENNE, his wife. Today, Hope Unlimited operates campuses in two Brazilian states, busing in and providing job skills certification - and a generous portion of God’s love - to 2,300 youth and young adults annually. The Smith’s greatest reward is working alongside the missions’ 180 full-time staff members, many of whom were themselves rescued by HOPE as children and are now producing fruit of their own!
