Ángel Eloy Jaén llegó al Programa de Tutorías Escolares cuando comenzaba su segundo grado. Nieto de una familia que sus 5 hijos varones ya habían pasado por el programa cuando estaban pequeños. Hoy en día son jóvenes adultos que ya trabajan y algunos son padres.

Ángel Eloy ya está en sexto grado y es un jovencito muy inteligente que ama las matemáticas y le gusta trabajar con cálculos matemáticos mentales. Es apático a escribir así que prefiere hacerlo todo de mente.

Con la situación del COVID19 estamos trabajando con módulos especiales para cada materia y los estudiantes no están asistiendo a la escuela como en muchos países.

El pasado viernes 16 de octubre trabajando en una mesa conmigo Ángel Eloy debía dibujar un teléfono celular y escribir en la pantalla tres preguntas de cualquier tema. Lo dejé pensar y le entregué un papel y le dije: “escribe primero tus tres preguntas en el papel y las vamos a revisar antes de que las escribas en la pantalla del celular”. Teníamos que tomarle una foto al dibujo del celular con las tres preguntas y enviárselas a su maestra por WhatsApp.

Las tres preguntas de Ángel Eloy:

1. ¿Tendremos la vacuna del COVID para el próximo año?

2. ¿Si podremos visitar a nuestros familiares en el 2021?

3. ¿Por qué los otros países si tienen la vacuna no la prueban con otros países?

Hermanos y hermanas la segunda pregunta de Ángel Eloy me puso a llorar. Dejamos a un lado la tarea y nos pusimos a conversar. ¿Para qué deseas visitar a tus familiares? El me contestó “para poderlos abrazar y besar”. La situación de este virus llamado COVID19 ha cambiado el curso de todas las vidas, pero en especial la de nuestros niños y niñas no importa el país donde viven.

Le doy gracias a Dios por cada estudiante que participa de nuestro programa. Cada cántico, cada momento de oración, cada palabra de reflexión en la Biblia nos ayuda a darles esperanza. El presente no es seguro, pero sabemos que toda nuestra vida está puesta en las manos de Dios. Pido sus oraciones por los estudiantes que atendemos y sus familiares.

Ángel Eloy Jaén came to our School Tutoring Program beginning his second grade. He is the grandson of a family whose 5 children had already gone through the program when they were young. Today they are responsible young adults, already working and some of them parents.

Ángel Eloy is in sixth grade. He is a very intelligent young man who loves Mathematics and likes to make mental math calculations. He is apathetic to write so he prefers to do everything in his mind.

With the COVID19 situation we are working with special modules for each subject. Students are not attending school, just as in many other countries.

Last Friday, October 16, when he was working at a table with me, Ángel Eloy was asked to draw a cell phone and write three questions on any subject on the screen. I let him think and gave him a piece of paper and said: “first write your three questions on the paper and we will review them before you write them on the cell phone screen.” We had to take a picture of the cell phone picture with the three questions and send them to his teacher on WhatsApp.

The three questions of Ángel Eloy:

1. Will we have the COVID vaccine for next year?

2. Will we visit our relatives in 2021?

3. Why don’t other countries, if they have the vaccine, test it with other countries?

Brothers and sisters, Ángel Eloy’s second question made me cry. We put homework aside and began to talk. Why do you want to visit your relatives? He answered me “I want to be able to hug and kiss them.” The situation of this virus called COVID19 has changed the course of all lives, but especially that of our children, no matter the country where they live.

I thank God for every student who participates in our program. Every song, every moment of prayer, every word of Bible reflection helps us give them hope. The present is not safe, but we know that our entire life is placed in the hands of God. I ask for your prayers for the students we serve and their families.
