Stepping Time
We rejoice that Christ is opening new outreach possibilities here in Debrecen. Recently, we met with several university students at a local restaurant. The students were from places such as Egypt, India, the Emirates, Nigeria, and Hungary. The discussion was focused on how Christianity is different from other world religions. Several Christians at the table shared their testimonies. They kindly and boldly shared why following Jesus was worth the risk even in the most difficult situations. We wholeheartedly agreed. This is the kind of courage we are seeing from Christians here as we begin new outreach ministries through the Debrecen Baptist Church and Talent School. Our prayer is that these new ministries reach Hungarians who are seeking the hope of Christ in their lives. Following Jesus requires faith, but we can move with courage because God is always faithful.
As we step out in faith, we think of God’s promise to part the water. God parted both the Red Sea and the Jordan River. When the people crossed the Red Sea, the water was stopped before they walked across. When the people crossed the Jordan River, the water was stopped only after they had already begun to walk. In Joshua 3:13 it says, “as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” The lesson is clear: sometimes God clears the way before you step and sometimes you step in faith knowing that God will clear the way. Either way, following Jesus always requires a step of faith. It’s stepping time for us!
