GoalThe goal of this project is to provide educational scholarships for at-risk, internally displacaced children in the Manipur, India, enabling them to receive education, career guidance, and child rights awareness training.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $7,874 annually to provide education scholarships, career guidance and child rights awareness training with Christian values for up to 500 students.
DescriptionDue to an ethnic conflict in Manipur, India, that began in 2023, thousands of children were forced to flee their homes. Schools have been closed, damaged, or inaccessible, leaving many children out of the education system for extended periods. The children are currently living with their parents in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) settlements or in rented accommodations. Most government schools in the affected areas are not functioning properly, so private schools are the primary option for education. However, these require payment of tuition fees and other educational expenses that many families are unable to afford.
This project provides educational scholarships for children between six and fifteen years of age, or grades 1-10.
The project’s long-term accomplishments go beyond immediate support, creating sustainable change in the lives of children, their families, and the wider community. Children will not only return to school but complete their education, improving literacy, skills, and future opportunities. Children are more likely to achieve higher income and better employment opportunities in adulthood, helping break intergenerational poverty. They will also grow into confident, responsible, and capable individuals, equipped with essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership, enabling them to contribute positively to society.
Due to the ongoing ethnic conflict, important areas such as Christian values education, child rights awareness, and career guidance have been neglected and given less attention. This sponsorship project provides a valuable opportunity to address these gaps by educating children and their families on Christian values, promoting awareness of child rights, and encouraging a positive career perspective. Such interventions will help build hope, understanding, and resilience within the community. In collaboration with the concerned Associations and Churches of the Manipur Baptist Convention, students will receive career guidance, and child rights awareness campaigns will be integrated into Vacation Bible School activities to educate children, parents, and communities. These programs will also promote Christian values and character development. All of these programs will help children build resilience, hope, and a positive outlook despite the challenges of displacement and conflict.
