In partnership with the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rovaughna works at the Baptist Vocational Training Center (BVTC) in a ministry rescuing, rehabilitating and educating women who had been victims of the trokosi slavery system. With her background in social work, Rovaughna feels particularly called to mission work in Ghana. Previously, she spent time in Africa using her counseling skills to rehabilitate young adults battling substance and physical abuse, human trafficking, gang violence and issues of grief, depression and poor self-image. It was upon returning from this journey that Rovaughna felt God’s call to make such work her life’s mission.

Rovaughna writes: Recently I discovered a posting on this ministries Facebook page by the Bergman’s of Midland, Michigan.  It was part of the “1 of 30” Campaign my Mission Partnership Team (MPT) and I ran last year during our support building efforts.  I reached out to the Bergmans, who also hosted me during my visit to the area, and thanked them.  I also told them that I would share the posting with the BVTC student on the Name Card. “Doris,” a 3rd year Fashion and Design student.  Doris blushed as I showed her the picture on my phone of the Bergman’s holding her name on the card.  “Apke, Mawu na yra wo” (Ewe for “Thank you and God bless you”) she asked me to share then confidently struck a pose for pictures to send.  A very warming moment!

However, what I had not shared was in April, Doris voluntarily withdrew from Individual Counseling.  I was saddened when she made this decision and resistant to providing explanation. During our interactions over pictures, I revisited with her the decision to stop counseling.
Last week I had a surprise knock on my “office” door.  It was Doris!  “I want you to talk to me,” she said.  I smiled from the inside and out and very quickly put it to her “Share whatever it is you would like to talk about!”  Both smiling, we began…again.
The fact is one girl out of 30 I see individually had gone astray and now has come back.  Isn’t that what this ministry is about…the One. Scripture reminds us of this in The Parable of the Lost Sheep, Luke 15: 1-7.
