We need to keep in mind that this storm hit an area with 3 times the force of Katrina, an area where over 360,000 people were already living in tents and barely surviving because of the shortage of supplies ( FOOD, WATER, and MEDICINE) caused by an earthquake exactly 3 weeks earlier.
Our partners in the area, Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches, will be distributing food and supplies purchased through funds received through the IM website (https://internationalministries.org/drives/16 ). Our ministry partners where I am, Samaritana Transformation Ministries in Manila, will be helping to package food to be distributed. [Or gifts can be sent by postal mail to International Ministries, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA. Write on the memo line: Philippine Relief.)
A source at Compassion International says that the people will be needing traumatic counseling for years…..
But first, they need food, water, and medicines…….
Please keep these people and the aid workers in your prayers. Also remember the thousands of family members in other areas that still do not know the plight of their loved ones.
I received this link from a group of missionaries that live here. It is about a British missionary who was trapped in the storm, but whose family has now been brought to Manila. Short, good pictures without a lot of gore, good verbal picturing. Not sure you can use it but…….
