“We’re so close to the finish line. I can already see the children streaming in for their first day of school. Praise God!” exclaimed IM Global Servant Jill Lowery about the near-completion of the Mitendi Primary School construction in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. 

Six years ago, the women of the Baptist Community of Congo (CBCO) with whom Lowery works, started the Mitendi Primary School using a few classrooms in the Mitendi Women’s Center. From that humble beginning, the school now serves 330 students providing quality education in a Christian environment to displaced and vulnerable children. Because of the school’s rapid growth, the Women’s Center could no longer accommodate both the women’s programs and the primary school in a single building.  

The women were faced with a critical need for a primary school building and needed to raise $169,351. It seemed like an impossible task. “But, with God, everything is possible, and miraculously, all but $10,000 of the needed funds have been raised and construction of the new school is nearly finished,” said Lowery.

The opening of this Christian school that will educate 660+ students is a dream come true for the women of CBCO. With just a few thousand dollars still needed, the school will provide a quality education to 660+ students from surrounding villages. Any additional funds beyond the building can be given to the primary school annual fund which will provide for the ongoing operations of the school each year. 

“It’s a miracle,” said Lowery! “Any help that IM’s friends can give to fully fund the building would be amazing! Your giving has already helped so much! With $10,000 more, the building could be completed by the end of May!”

 When the building is completed, ongoing funds will be needed to provide ongoing maintenance and teacher support. IM is seeking to raise $36,240 annually to provide this ongoing support.
