On May 20, three young adults led by IM Global Consultant and IGNITE spiritual leader, Dr. Dan Buttry and Jeni Pedzinski, will travel to the Republic of Georgia to embark on a month long immersion into the Georgian culture, serving in programs and projects of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia. These will include ministries with disadvantaged children, marginalized elderly, refugees from Abkazia, and persecuted Christians in Batumi. Their experiences in Georgia will also include significant aspects of spiritual and leadership formation. Such elements will include participatory ministry, silent retreat, religious pilgrimage and learning about Eastern Christian traditions of spirituality. Participants will learn from and with Georgian young adults while working together as mission partners. Upon arriving in Georgia, the team will participate in orientation designed to build sustaining relationships with one another and deepen their walk with God. Leaders from the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia will include Archbishop Malkhaz Songulashvili and Bishops Merab Gaprindashvili and Rusudan Gotsiridze.
They will return to the USA on June 19th for debriefing and participation at the American Baptist Churches Mission Summit in Kansas City. This essential aspect of IGNITE gives opportunity for participants to voice deep issues and concerns that have arisen from their experiences. They will also prepare their presentations for their local congregations and supporters, and will connect formally and informally with the Mission Summit participants.
