Education
GoalThe goal of this project is to provide an education for the children of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
SummaryThis project seeks to raise $52,800 to hire Syrian refugee teachers and purchase textbooks, school supplies and uniforms for 100 students in Lebanon.
DescriptionThe Bekaa Valley of Lebanon is dotted with large, informal settlements of Syrian refugees. More than 1.5 million Syrians have sought refuge in Lebanon, a tiny country ill-equipped to meet their needs. More than half of the refugees are children, and 70% have no access to formal education.
Nine-year-old “Safaa” hasn’t been in school since her family fled to Lebanon a year ago. Housing is scarce and her family lives in a garage, for which they pay $400 a month. Her father can’t find steady employment. Safaa and her siblings have been very affected by the war, but she still dreams of going to school and becoming a pediatrician.
The Student Tuition Expense Program will give these children the chance for a more stable future through education and improve their sense of well-being. STEP funds will hire Syrian refugee teachers, purchase textbooks, school supplies and uniforms. This project will be managed by the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD).
Suggested Gifts$100 provides three children each with a school uniform, winter clothes (a jacket, a hat, socks and boots), a backpack and school supplies.
$250 covers six children’s school needs.
$500 will help 12 children.
Prayer RequestsPray with the LSESD and its partners in Lebanon that God would continue to empower his church to meet the needs of the Syrian refugees, providing LSESD with the strength and resources to touch the lives of children and families that are suffering.
