Is God calling you to engage as a volunteer missionary?

Short term missionaries are primarily serving in volunteer positions around the world, though there are longer term positions that cover all expenses and provide a stipend.

We are here to serve you and your short term mission team. From the first call of God to serve to long after you return home, we can help you navigate the planning, preparation, and follow up for your team to serve cross culturally.  We also offer cross cultural orientation training using curriculum developed by Rev. Ann Borquist, IM missionary. Clicking here will take you to a page full of downloadable hints and helps as you prepare your team.

There are many opportunities available.  Check out Get Involved for the latest in volunteer and career opportunities. If you don't see anything that is really grabbing you, contact us at Volunteers for Global Mission (VIGM) - contact information below. If you know where or when you want to serve, we'll get you going on the next steps in the process!

There are a few steps in this journey. The first is to email or call the Volunteers in Global Mission team to talk about possibilities. If you have already spoken to them, or to a missionary or partner and know you want to continue with the application process.

Click here. Go to the "INDIVIDUAL" section.  Download the Application for Individual Missionary Service and follow the instructions.

Download the Individual Volunteer Reference Form.  Give this to three people, one should be your pastor and the other two should be people who know you well, but not a relative.  At least one should be related to the field you are applying to volunteer in.

Download the Volunteer Missionary Handbook.  Read it.  Find the page that you need to sign and send it back to us... after you have read the handbook.

Next Step:

Once we have received your application, your three references, your background check, and have confirmed a place of service, you'll need to complete the following:

Download the Medical Release/Emergency Contact Form. Meet with your physician and have him/her fill it out with you and sign it.

If you are under 21, download the Volunteer Travel Authorization Form for Minors.  This form is for minors traveling with one or no parents. It must be notarized.

International Ministries will provide you with free travel accident insurance while you are volunteering. Download the Travel Insurance Summary for more information. Some countries are rated higher risk and there may be a premium based on location, risk level, and length of service time. Additional short term medical insurance can also be purchased.

If you have questions, please call or email the Volunteers in Global Mission team. Call 1-800-222-3872, extension 2366 or email
