U.S. Assignment Ending

We are concluding our year of U.S. assignment, wrapping up our 2nd term as American Baptist Missionaries, and about to embark on the beginning of our 3rd term.  It hardly seems possible that we have been serving as your missionaries for 11 years!  During that time we have made scores of new friends, and formed relationships with dozens of new churches.  How beautiful is the body of Christ!

Vacation at Prince Edward Island & Acadia

Aaron finished his sophomore year of high school on June 18th, and 3 days later we took off on a two week vacation.  We traveled all the way to the NE corner of Canada where we visited Prince Edward Island.  Friends of ours, the Websters, have a family cabin there and graciously invited us to join them for a week.  What a beautiful piece of God’s world!  From there, we headed back down to Maine where we joined with missionary family Schellinger-Gutierrez for four days of camping at Acadia National Park.  Ray, Adalia, Michelle and Melissa serve in Northern Baja, and we usually see them once a year at our annual Baja Missionary Retreat.  So this was an extra bonus to see them before that retreat!  We spent the days hiking and exploring God’s creation.  And despite a forecast of rain, we never saw a drop until the day we left.  We were thankful as we were camping in tents!

Goodbye to MA to Travel West

Once back in MA, we packed up the rest of our belongings over the Fourth of July, then said goodbye to all our dear friends from Littleton, MA.  This is where we lived before we went on the mission field, so it was such a blessing to renew old friendships during this past year.  Over a period of 2 weeks, we then traversed the country on our way to Arizona.  We stopped to visit with Joyce’s mom Mary in Gap, PA.  We also saw her sister Janeen and brother-in-law Mike while there.  Then on to Columbus, OH, where we worshiped with Mountview Baptist Church.  Pastor Kevin Snyder was in David’s youth group in Collingswood, NJ.  How fun to see one of his “kids” grown up and now serving in ministry.  We also got to spend a day with Joyce’s cousin Vivian and her 3 daughters.  From OH, we made our way to St. Louis where we took our picture by the arch, then on to Hayes, KS, where we spoke at First Baptist Hayes.

Anointing & Prayer in Kansas

The pastor and wife of FBC Hayes, Jerry & Nancy Sprock, are presently volunteering in La Paz and covering the Crossroads Christian Fellowship ministry for us.  This is their second summer to do this.  It was such a joy to meet their congregation and to share with them more about the ministry in La Paz.  Also, to be able to thank them in person for sharing their pastor and his wife!  This church also has a Hispanic Ministry and members of that church also attended our presentation.  This was our last presentation of our year of U.S. assignment and God allowed a beautiful thing to happen.  The Hispanic pastor, Raphael, anointed us with oil, laid hands on us, and prayed for us and our ministry as we return to La Paz.  How amazing to be anointed and prayed for in Spanish before we return to Mexico!  God is always full of surprises!

Visiting Family in AZ

From KS we journeyed through Colorado and New Mexico to land in Scottsdale, AZ.  We are here until the first of August, visiting David’s family, reconnecting with our oldest son Ian, and worshiping with FBC Scottsdale.  Ian has been living with his grandparents for the summer and selling Cutco knives.  He is one of the top salespeople for the Phoenix office.  A hidden talent none of knew he possessed!  He returns to LeTourneau University in mid-August where he will be a sophomore.

We will send out an email again concerning the specific date of our departure.  We definitely desire to be bathed in your prayers as we drive across the border and head back to La Paz.  Our plan is to cross at Nogales, AZ and drive down the mainland side to the ferry at Topolobampo, where we will then sail across the Sea of Cortez to La Paz.

We thank you for your continued support and prayers for our ministry!
